the duties.

No case has yet happened in which an Official Liquidator has been required to be appointed, but in case of a large English or of a Chinese Company being wound up, the amount of work required to be done would be probably very great.

Under Ordinancc 10 of 1864 all Bills of Sale have to be filed with the Registrar and under Section 4 the Registrar is required to keep a Book of particulars of each Bill of Sale.

The number of Bills of Sale filed since the passing of the Ordinance has been 307 of which twelve were filed in 1881 and teu up to 15th August, 1882.

The Registrar has also as Registrar, filling as he does the corresponding offices of Master and Chief Clerk in the Common Law and Chancery Divisions in England, references made to him for his Report or Certificate. Several have been made to him Accounts this year of considerable importance such as the taking partnership accounts.

of Executors and Trustees Certificates of Title &c., &c., all involving considerable trouble and some in which the assistance of a skilled Accountant is almost a necessity. Besides which he has to tax Bills of Costs, a considerable number of which have been presented to him for taxation during the last five months since the present Registrar has been in the Court, some of them involving to my knowledge a considerable amount of time and trouble.

Besides this all the Orders of the Court have to be drawn up by the Registrar or one of the Deputy Registrars, except orders made in chambers in Original Jurisdiction He has also to take Commis- which have been drawn up by the Chief Justice's clerk. sions de bene esse, to issue Writs of Foreign Attachment, to endorse Notice of Trial on Criminal Informations under Ordinance 3 of 1865, and to file Informations to issue Writs of Execution. Writs of Summons, to keep Register of Civil Suits, to enter Judgments, to make minutes Register of Civil Suits (Summary Jurisdiction).

Besides this the Registrar of the Supreme Court is also ex-officio Registrar of the Vice-Admiralty Court and as such has several important duties which he has personally to perform. It is true he gets fees for so doing and the duties have to be performed during office hours, but a man cannot do more than a certain amount of work in a given time even if he is well paid for performing it.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court has also to receive and deposit among the records of the Court. Declarations of Editors of Newspapers under Ordinance 2 of 1844 also Bonds under Ordinance 16 of 1860, the latter of which Ordinances gives a good deal of responsibility and has lately given a considerable amount of trouble to the Registrar.

The Registrar has also frequently both as Official Trustee and as Official Assignee and Official Administrator to manage House and landed property, to collect rents and to keep up Insurance, &c.
